Newcastle target Joao Pedro has now been given the captaincy at Watford as the Hornets attempt to fend off the Magpies.
What’s the story?
Well – according to The Athletic – Newcastle are still interested in the Brazilian after failing with a £25m bid back in August.
Pedro has continued his excellent form despite failing to secure a move to Tyneside, scoring ten goals in 32 Championship appearances so far this season.
Now – in recent weeks – the South American has been given the captaincy as he adds another string to his bow at Vicarage Road.
Both Slaven Bilic and Chris Wilder – who replaced the Croatian in March – have given Pedro the armband, which speaks volumes about his maturity at the age of just 21.

Whether it is an attempt by Watford to hand their No.10 some extra responsibility and make him feel more wanted at Vicarage Road remains to be seen, although there is no denying that it is impressive to see someone so young take the armband.
Newcastle must go back in for Joao Pedro
Some may question why Newcastle still want to sign Pedro despite the £63m arrival of Alexander Isak since those bids were sent to Watford last year.
If you do find yourself asking that, then there is no reason to.
Pedro – who Watford paid just £2m for – is a very versatile forward who has already played on the left, on the right and also in the centre of attack for Watford this season.
Isak has also proven that he can make an impact roaming around in a number of areas, so the flexible duo would surely be able to play together if Howe managed to bring the Watford wonderkid to St James’ Park.
Be sure to keep an eye on Pedro throughout the summer, as Newcastle look set to make another push to secure his signature.
