Liverpool have now suffered a setback in their hunt for a new Director of Football as Ajax announce the arrival of Sven Mislintat.

What’s the story?

Well – according to Sky Germany – Mislintat was among the options for Liverpool as they attempt to replace Julian Ward, who has already announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

90min added that the German was interested in a move to Liverpool.

Now – however – Mislintat is no longer an option for the Reds as Ajax announce his arrival in Amsterdam.

The 50-year-old has joined the Dutch giants on a deal until June 2026.

Mislintat worked with Jürgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, helping to bring the likes of Robert Lewandowski to the Signal Iduna Park.

Therefore, the links seemed to have a fair bit of credibility.

However, Liverpool will have to look elsewhere with Mislintat now off to the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Who Liverpool could hire instead of Mislintat

Despite Mislintat joining Ajax, there are still a number of options available for Liverpool.

One of those is Paul Mitchell.

The Englishman has just announced that he will be leaving Monaco this summer as he wants to return to the United Kingdom for family reasons, having previously worked at Southampton and Tottenham before moving to France.

He told Nice Matin: “I have spent a lot of time away from home and my loved ones in recent years. I feel that the mission I had, which was to rebuild the sports project, has been fulfilled.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have already made contact with Mitchell.

The Athletic believe Markus Krosche – Director of Football at Eintracht Frankfurt – is another option for Liverpool.

Clearly, it wasn’t just Mislintat on the shortlist at Anfield, so be sure to keep an eye out for further developments.
