Seamus Coleman says Harry Kane didn’t need to stay down ‘as long as he did’ following Abdoulaye Doucoure’s red card during Everton’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night at Goodison Park.
The Everton right-back agreed that Abdoulaye Doucoure deserved his red card for putting his hand to Harry Kane’s face, but he just couldn’t understand the antics of the Spurs striker, after that – Chris Sutton thinks the England captain was ’embarrassing’.
At the time, the game was goalless, and in the early stages of the second half, but then things got worse for Sean Dyche’s side.
After Doucoure’s moment of madness, Michael Keane followed it up by fouling Cristian Romero inside the penalty area with, none other than, Kane stepping up and converting the spot-kick past his England teammate, Jordan Pickford.
At the time, Everton fans would have been fearing the worse in their relegation fight, but then, substitute, Lucas Moura’s late tackle on Keane resulted in a straight red for the Brazilian and everything turned on its head.
Keane was involved in the thick of the action yet again, this time, firing a quite stunning long-range effort into the back of the net on the 90th-minute mark to send the Goodison Park faithful wild.
There was a lot of drama and talking points during the match, but Coleman made his public opinions of Kane pretty clear, as he told Premier League Productions (03/04/23 at 10:10 pm).
“As a team, we probably don’t need to get involved in as much as we have done in the last few games,” said Coleman. “It’s something the manager has made a point of.
“When you raise your hands, then we know the rules. I don’t think he (Kane) he needed to stay down as long as he did. I think the red card was coming anyway, but we know the rules and it was disappointing.”

Well, despite playing against ten men for large parts of the second half and being 1-0 up, it seemed as though it was Everton with that extra-man advantage.
Yes, that goal from Keane was one he might not be able to top again, but Sean Dyche’s side deserved the point, and perhaps more, because they were the better team during the second period.
