Liverpool appear to have shelved their interest in Matheus Nunes with the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder now unlikely to move.

The Reds will surely be spending on at least two midfielders this summer in an attempt to revitalise Jurgen Klopp’s engine room.

Nunes has been a prominent name for months now, heavily linked with Liverpool alongside Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

The Telegraph reported in January that Liverpool had a commitment in place to go for Nunes in a £44million deal this summer.

It was suggested that Wolves and Liverpool had an agreement after Nunes left Sporting last summer.

However, The Telegraph now suggest that Wolves have removed a clause allowing Liverpool to sign Nunes.

Just how that happened is unclear but it’s stated that Liverpool are now ready to ditch their interest in Nunes and move on.

Wolves are allegedly set to demand over £50million for Nunes and Liverpool seemingly won’t be paying that kind of money.

Matheus Nunes yet to show he’s Liverpool-ready

We can absolutely understand why Liverpool wanted Nunes last summer.

The Portuguese international had been outstanding for Sporting, emerging as one of the top box-to-box midfielders in Europe.

Wolves pulled off quite the coup, possibly with the plan to flip him to Liverpool for a profit after a year.

Nunes has blown hot and cold in a Wolves shirt though.

Nunes has so much talent in his locker and has impressed as a ball-carrying box-to-box midfielder whilst being clocked as the Premier League’s quickest midfielder.

Yet there is still so much work to do in terms of consistency, really imposing himself on games and his off-ball work.

Nunes hasn’t exactly impressed in his first Premier League campaign and needs time with Wolves to really kick on.

Maybe Liverpool can revisit this interest down the line but it’s hard to see how Nunes could make an instant impact at Anfield.
