Don Hutchison has backed Tottenham Hotspur to sign Manchester United transfer target David Raya from Brentford if Harry Kane stays at the club.

The former midfielder thinks Harry Kane ‘doesn’t need any mates’ up top because he has ‘great players’ in Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min.

Therefore, Hutchison has told Tottenham to try and nab Brentford’s number-one goalkeeper, who will have 12 months left to run on his contract in the summer.

The signs suggest that David Raya will head for the exit door, despite Thomas Frank’s side fairing very well in the Premier League this season and in with a chance of Europe.

But the 27-year-old clearly feels he needs to take his game to the next level, with the ‘top-class’ Tottenham transfer target also on the wishlist of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.

Nonetheless, this is what Hutchison had to say when asked about who Tottenham should sign if Kane stays on board beyond the summer, as he told ESPN.

“I mean, where do you start,” asked Hutchison. “They have three right wing-backs, so, obviously not there.

“Probably a top goalkeeper, David Raya. He’s had a good season. He’s got Son. He doesn’t need any mates (up top). He’s got Kulusevski. He has got great players around him.”

MORE THAN RAYA NEEDED

There is every chance Kane stays in the summer, even if he wants to leave, because it’s Daniel Levy running the ship, and as he proved when Manchester City came knocking, he’s not budging.

But if Spurs want their star striker to sign on that dotted line and possibly sign a contract for the rest of his life, then they are going to need more than Raya.

The middle of the park has been a huge issue, especially after Cristian Eriksen’s exit, whilst a top-class centre-back, or two, are needed.

Eric Dier isn’t at the level Spurs want to go, Japhet Tanganga has not been provided with enough chances, Clement Lenglet is struggling during his loan spell, Ben Davies is better suited to left-back, Davison Sanchez is a transfer flop and the unpredictable, Cristian Romero, is the only quality defender.
