Ally McCoist has suggested Tottenham Hotspur to appoint Brendan Rodgers as their next manager.

While Premier League coaches such as Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have been linked with the job, the Scottish pundit has backed the Leicester City boss as the man for the role.

Despite several Tottenham Hotspur fans perhaps turning their noses up at the idea of Brendan Rodgers becoming their next manager, Ally McCoist has made a case on talkSPORT for why he would be a smart hire.

McCoist tells Tottenham to appoint Rodgers as next manager

This season, the former Liverpool boss has failed to cover himself in glory as the Foxes are languishing in 17th place in the Premier League table.

Despite having far too much quality to get relegated according to most fans and pundits alike, they are just one point above West Ham in the relegation zone, and that too having played an extra game.

However, Ally McCoist still believes that Brendan Rodgers would be the right fit to become the next manager of Tottenham.

“I think Brendan [Rodgers] would do an excellent job. I really think, apart from this season, you look at Brendan’s record, it’s been fantastic! It’s been great.”

Tottenham can aim higher

While Brendan Rodgers has not become a poor manager overnight, as Ally McCoist has implied, Tottenham can aim a lot higher.

The likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Oliver Glasner and Ruben Amorim have been speculated as potential candidates, who are all perhaps better fits for the role than the Northern Irishman.

While Rodgers would perhaps be one of the best suited out of all the reported managerial options to deal with the frugality associated with Daniel Levy, whether he can take the side to new levels constantly is the question mark that he is yet to answer in his career.
