Liverpool want Josko Gvardiol but their hopes of signing the RB Leipzig defender appear to have been severely dented.
Liverpool are targeting Josko Gvardiol
The Reds have been linked with a number of left-footed centre backs ahead of the summer.
Max Kilman, Levi Colwill and Evan Ndicka have been mentioned but Gvardiol is undoubtedly the big name.
Fabrizio Romano reported earlier in March that Liverpool made a January move to sign Gvardiol.
RB Leipzig rejected Liverpool’s approach, refusing to let the defender leave in the middle of the season.
Gvardiol even admitted in January that Liverpool would be his ‘dream’ move having grown up supporting the Reds with his father.
That all sounds pretty encouraging for Liverpool and Reds fans may believe that a summer move is possible.
Sadly for the Reds, Leipzig seemingly aren’t all that keen on letting the Croatian leave.

RB Leipzig taking firm Gvardiol stance
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Leipzig are completely reluctant to striking a summer deal.
Plettenberg claims that even an offer of €100million (£88million) wouldn’t tempt Leipzig into a sale.
Plettenberg notes that Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool all want Gvardiol but Leipzig aren’t even considering an exit.
Hailed as ‘special’ by pundit Pat Nevin, Gvardiol looks set to become a superstar and you can understand so much interest.
Leipzig are proving a tough nut to crack though and will be reluctant to lose key players with Konrad Laimer and Christopher Nkunku already leaving.
Gvardiol may well dream of playing for Liverpool one day, but he seemingly will have to put that on hold for a while.
Whether Liverpool were even willing to pay £88million is unclear given their need to sign midfielders, but they can seemingly cross Gvardiol off their summer wish list.
