Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan ‘would love’ to see Chelsea ace and England international Conor Gallagher return to the Premier League outfit after that impressive loan spell.

According to The Times, Graham Potter’s side are facing up to a substantial summer ‘firesale’ as they look to avoid potential Financial Fair Play breaches. The good news, at least, is that Chelsea have a surplus of sellable talent who could command substantial transfer fees.

Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic to name but three. Maybe even Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly too.

Gallagher, meanwhile, is almost certain to have his fair share of offers, even if his form since returning to Stamford Bridge has left plenty to be desired at times.

Could Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher return to Crystal Palace?

“(Chelsea) have got an embarrassment of riches and it’s time to change things up,” Jordan, who spent ten years in control at Selhurst Park, tells talkSPORT (28 March, 10.50am).

“A ‘firesale’ means you’re selling at a discount. Chelsea won’t be selling at a discount. They will be selling for top money,”

“They have sold players before, and have done so very successfully. They’ve made profits from selling young players.”

Gallagher, once of West Brom and Charlton Athletic, scored eight goals and set up five more during a fine loan spell at Crystal Palace in the 2021/22 campaign. His departure, meanwhile, left a massive void at the heart of Patrick Vieira’s engine room, no one at Palace managing to emulate Gallagher’s eye for goal from central areas.

Newcastle are reportedly planning a summer move for the Chelsea academy graduate (The Athletic). But Jordan still hopes to see a fans’ favourite re-trace familiar footsteps.

“If they sell Conor Gallagher, who is a £40 million footballer, they sell Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount, they’ve just made £140 million worth of profit. It’s practical, pragmatic business,” Jordan adds.

“Gallagher is in and out, he is a very good player, I would love to have him at Crystal Palace. But is he going to move out some of these top players who have been brought in to achieve something? Debatable.”
