Newcastle United think Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney is the ‘ideal’ attacking full back to play under Eddie Howe.

That’s according to The Athletic, who report that Tierney features ‘prominently’ on Newcastle’s list of summer targets.

It’s noted that Newcastle are yet to actually whittle down their transfer wish list for the summer.

Tierney seems to be one of the top names on the list though with Newcastle believing that he is perfect for what they want.

Newcastle are prioritising the signing of another left back with Tierney potentially a step up from Dan Burn and Matt Targett.

A defensive midfielder and playmaker are also wanted at St James’ Park with Newcastle ready to spend again this summer.

Kieran Tierney to Newcastle makes sense

Newcastle have been linked with other left backs with Alex Grimaldo and Renan Lodi both mentioned.

Tierney is the rumour that has made the most sense though given Eddie Howe’s long-standing interest in the Scot.

Howe allegedly made Tierney his top target for the 2018 summer transfer window at Bournemouth, but he wasn’t able to sign the then-Celtic defender.

Five years on, Howe is back in for Tierney again and a move seems possible.

Tierney has started just four Premier League games this season and come off the bench in another 15.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has not only taken Tierney’s place but has also become a key leader for this Arsenal team.

It’s incredibly hard to see how Tierney gets back in now and the 25-year-old would be tempted to leave.

Tierney would surely play regularly at Newcastle and play a key role for the Magpies as they look to progress.

Hailed as an ‘outstanding’ player by Brendan Rodgers, Tierney is a top talent and it’s no surprise Newcastle believe he can be a massive signing for Howe.
