Harry Kane’s Tottenham Hotspur future remains up in the air with one former Premier League winger telling England’s all-time record goalscorer that he would be ‘perfect’ for Manchester United.

This time last year, Spurs could conceivably claim to have had the most fearsome front three in the whole of the division. Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski; if not the most fearsome, then certainly the most in-form.

Flash forward a year and Son is a shadow of his former self, Kulusevski’s early impact has been diminished and, Kane, meanwhile, is one year closer to the expiration of his contract.

With his 30th birthday approaching, and with Kane set to become a free-agent in 2024, this is shaping up to the biggest summer of the striker’s career.

And former Arsenal and Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes that a direct Premier League rival may be the ideal destination for a man who, despite becoming Tottenham and England’s all-time record goalscorer since the turn of the year, has far more cobwebs than silver in his personal trophy cabinet.

Manchester United hope to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur

“Harry Kane would be an absolutely fantastic signing (for Man United),” Pennant tells talkSPORT (27 March, 10pm). “He would be perfect!”

“If he stays, would you say he’s got no ambition. Spurs are not going to be winning any trophies in the next two or three years. And he turns 30 in July. The clock is running down. a player of that calibre should be looking to win massive trophies.

“It’s only United (he can go to).”

Erik ten Hag’s resurgent United side will prioritise a high-class number nine this summer, regardless or whether Sheikh Jassim or Sir Jim Ratcliffe complete their respective takeover attempts.

United reportedly believe that Tottenham may be forced to accept a reduced fee if the £100 million-rated Kane fails to guide a now-managerless side into the Champions League places (The Sun).

“I’ll put it out there; He’s the greatest striker English football has ever produced,” one-time Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara tells talkSPORT (23 March, 10.30pm).

“He’ll get 70 goals for England. He will break the Premier league record. How can we have any negativity whatsoever towards a man who’s got everything?

“(His achievements) will last forever. He is immortal in the game of football. You will always remember Harry Kane for what he achieved for Tottenham, for England and in the Premier League.

“That, for me, is bigger than a Premier League title. What he has done is unbelievable, and I don’t think we will see it ever again.”

“Of course, I would love him to stay and sign another five-year contract. He won’t go to (Real) Madrid. He wants the Premier League all-time record.”
