Tottenham Hotspur appear to have begun their search for a new manager to replace Antonio Conte.

The Italian’s future at Spurs is increasingly uncertain in wake of his incendiary post-Southampton press conference.

Plenty of coaches have been linked with the Tottenham role in recent weeks.

The current big name doing the rounds is Julian Nagelsmann, who Bayern Munich sacked this week.

Thomas Tuchel was apparently on the Spurs radar, but he has replaced the 35-year-old at the Allianz Arena.

Luis Enrique is also reportedly in the frame, and obviously we can’t forget Mauricio Pochettino.

Dean Jones, writing on GiveMeSport, has provided an update on the state of play Spurs-side.

“Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique are other big names being considered as Conte’s replacement,” he wrote.

“And talks with those are still likely to be explored despite the Nagelsmann availability.”

Is a big name right for Spurs at this moment in time?

Pochettino seems to be the fan favourite to take over from Conte at Tottenham.

He knows Spurs like the back of his hand and gave the club some of their best times in recent memory.

Pochettino is also a free agent at present, so Tottenham wouldn’t have to negotiate compensation with a club.

Likewise, Enrique is out of work, and he has an amazing CV which includes a Champions League triumph.

However, there are potential issues with both coaches with regards to taking the Spurs reins.

Pochettino’s legacy at Tottenham is assured, and taking over at N17 again would put it at risk.

There could be inflated expectations of what he can achieve at the club, based on his previous record.

However, Spurs are weaker now than when he left. Will he get the funds and time needed to rebuild properly?

As for Enrique, he’s a high-profile, marquee name, but so are Conte and Jose Mourinho.

What worked at Barcelona may not work at Spurs.

Tottenham would probably be better off getting a young manager with a blank slate and let him build the club in his image.

With that in mind, Nagelsmann is probably the best option for Spurs right now.
