Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham has said that he does not want Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

Sheringham, who won the historic treble with Manchester United in 1999, has said on talkSPORT (4:26pm, March 23, 2023) that West Ham midfielder Rice would make Arsenal better.

And he does not want the 24-year-old England international, who can also operate as a defender, to make the switch to Tottenham’s bitter North London rivals Arsenal.

According to The Daily Mail, Arsenal are determined to sign Rice from London and Premier League rivals West Ham in the summer of 2023 and could prioritise him over fellow midfielder Moises Caicedo of Brighton and Hove Albion.

TalkSPORT journalist and presenter Jim White has said that West Ham want as much as £120 million plus add-ons for the midfielder.

Sheringham said about Rice and Arsenal: “He would definitely make Arsenal a better team.

“Don’t like to say it, but they are already good enough this season.

“I don’t want to see Declan go there because he would make them a better team.”

HITC Verdict: Gunners should bid for Rice

In our view, Arsenal should bid for Declan Rice in the summer transfer window and should do their utmost to sign him from West Ham United.

Now, of course, the Hammers will ask for a lot of money in transfer fees, but there are reports that the 24-year-old himself is keen on a move to Arsenal.

And that would help the Gunners in any potential negotiations over a player who scored for England against Italy in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier in Naples on Thursday evening.
