Report: Arsenal now showing interest in snatching Manchester United’s ‘incredibly fast’ target

Arsenal are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as they look to add a new right back this summer.

That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking to Give Me Sport.

Jones claims that Arsenal are prioritising a new right back signing this summer and have a number of targets.

One of them is Frimpong, who has been exceptional for Bayer Leverkusen this season.

The Dutchman may be familiar to some Arsenal fans after shining for Celtic, whilst he has also been in the Manchester City ranks.

Who is Arsenal target Jeremie Frimpong?

Frimpong was born in Amsterdam but actually joined the Manchester City youth setup at the age of just nine.

Frimpong never quite made the grade for City and was sold to Celtic in 2019.

The Bhoys struck a deal worth just £1million for Frimpong and whilst City had a hefty sell-on clause, that was a bargain.

Frimpong notched three goals and eight assists in 51 games for Celtic to ultimately attract Leverkusen’s interest.

A deal worth £11.5million was struck and Frimpong has continued to be an attacking marvel in the Bundesliga.

Frimpong has racked up seven goals and nine assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby but his partner in crime down the right flank is Frimpong.

Hailed as ‘incredibly fast’ by Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes, Frimpong is a major threat going forward and could add real quality to the Arsenal side.

Manchester United also want Frimpong

Arsenal are hardly alone in chasing Frimpong though.

Fabrizio Romano notes that Manchester United – managed by Frimpong’s fellow Dutchman Erik ten Hag – want the 22-year-old.

One note we must make here is that Frimpong isn’t an ideal fit in a back four.

The Dutch talent basically plays as a winger at this point and is very comfortable as a right wing back.

Putting him in a back four and expecting solid defending out of him would be a gamble, meaning Mikel Arteta and Erik ten Hag must consider their tactical approach when going for Frimpong.
