Chelsea are reportedly ready to rip up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract this summer after just one season at the club, with the former Arsenal star failing to impress in west London.
According to Sport, the Blues could cancel the 33-year-old’s contract at the end of this season amid growing interest in the Gabon superstar, with Aubameyang himself keen on a move back to FC Barcelona as the report states that the striker would even take a paycut to make the transfer happen.
Earning a reported £160,000-a-week, Aubameyang has been one of the flops of the season in the Premier League, with the former Arsenal captain scoring just one goal in the division and starting just four games, with a move away from Stamford Bridge all-but likely this summer.
With Barcelona seemingly interested as well as clubs in MLS, Chelsea making the decision to release Aubameyang from his contract after just one season will be nothing short of embarrassing for Graham Potter’s side, with Arsenal supporters now doubt ready to have one last laugh over the entire situation.

Indeed, Aubameyang left Arsenal on unfavourable terms having been stripped of the captaincy by Mikel Arteta in January 2022 before signing for Barcelona. And with the attacker now set for another humiliating exit, Chelsea will be left with egg on their face should they cancel the forward’s contract.
However, although this method of letting go of a player is usually and embarrassment for the club, it’s hard to think of any other way that Chelsea will be able to get rid of Aubameyang, with the Blues unlikely to keep the striker on their books for another year.
Chelsea have to bite the bullet and terminate Aubameyang’s contract

Chelsea’s no. 9 curse claimed it’s latest victim this season in Aubameyang, and whilst the move has been an utter mess for the Blues, the west London side simply have to bite the bullet this summer and release the attacker from his contract once the season is over.
With so many first-team players on their books, Chelsea have to be ruthless this summer and cut those from the payroll that have no future at the club, and with Aubameyang already attracting some interest, terminating the striker’s deal could be a painless exercise for Potter’s side.
