Paul Barber has mocked Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on The Beautiful Game Podcast for trying to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.

The Brighton CEO has said that Arsenal would have got half of Caicedo for £70 million.

According to The Daily Mail in January 2023, Arsenal wanted to sign Caicedo from Brighton in the January transfer window and had two bids for the Ecuador international turned down.

Sky Sports reported that Arsenal’s second bid was worth £70 million.

The Seagulls reportedly turned it down.

The 21-year-old Ecuador international midfielder – described as “amazing” by his Brighton teammate Alexis Mac Allister on talkSPORT (6 March, 11.50am)- has since signed a new contract with Brighton this week.

Paul Barber on Arsenal target Moises Caicedo

Barber said when asked about Arsenal trying to sign Caicedo for £70 million: “Only if they wanted half the player.

“I mean, joking aide, we never provide the numbers. It always amuses us when we see numbers in the media.”

HITC Verdict: Future move possible

In our view, Arsenal could be able to sign Moises Caicedo in the future.

Okay, so he has just signed a new contract with Brighton.

The Seagulls are making it clear that they do not want to sell him this summer, and that they see him as a key player in their team.

However, every player has his price.

We do not expect Caicedo to be at Brighton forever.

If Arsenal continue to challenge for the Premier League title in the coming years, then the North London club could be able to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Eventually.
