According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte was not happy with defenders Pedro Porro and Ben Davies during the Premier League game against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The report has noted that midway through the first half, when Porro and Davies did not swap their positions on the pitch, Tottenham head coach Conte got furious with them.
The £93,000-a-week Davies (SalarySport) in particular did not seemingly heed Conte’s initial demand to swap positions, but eventually the Welshman and Porro got it right, according to the report.
Tottenham could only manage a 3-3 draw with Southampton, which led to Conte going on an extraordinary rant after the match.
Antonio Conte was fuming at Tottenham Hotspur duo Ben Davies and Pedro Pro
Football.London wrote: “There was one point midway through the first half where Tottenham had Pedro Porro operating at left wing-back and Ben Davies on the opposite flank after defending a corner.
“With the ball not going out of play for a good few minutes, the players carried on in unnatural roles as they waited for a break in play to swap.
“That never came and it resulted in Conte furiously shouting at the pair to swap over.
“Davies didn’t seem keen on doing so at first with the ball in play and Spurs in possession, yet he soon shot across to the left flank once the head coach demanded them to immediately change.”
Bad result for Spurs
In our view, Tottenham Hotspur fans will be bitterly disappointed that the team could not win against Southampton.
Yes, the Saints have shown some positive signs of late, but that should not detract from the fact that they are one of the worst teams in the Premier League.
Southampton could well get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
And Tottenham could not win against them.
