Liverpool and Newcastle have now been given a boost in their respective pursuits of Mason Mount after he hired a new agent.

It was talkSPORT who claimed that Liverpool are confident of signing the England international this summer.

Elsewhere – according to the Daily Mail – Newcastle are keen to sign Mount, with that story also mentioning interest from Liverpool.

Now, there has been a major development.

What’s the story?

Well – according to Fabrizio Romano – Mount has officially hired Neil Fewings as his new agent, with the Chelsea No.19 now “very likely to leave” Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has been in talks with Chelsea over a new contract, as his current terms expire in July 2024.

However, there is yet to be a breakthrough between Mount and the Blues, with an exit from west London now the most likely scenario for the £76,000-a-week man.

It comes after Mount found himself on the bench in many games under Graham Potter since the Englishman replaced Thomas Tuchel, following an influx of new attackers such as Joao Felix, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

Mount should choose Liverpool over Newcastle

In our view, Mount would be better off at Liverpool than Newcastle.

The England international, who boasts tremendous energy and is an effective presser, would fit in seamlessly under Jürgen Klopp, a manager who loves his sides to adopt a high intensity style.

Liverpool’s midfield is also going stale, with injuries occurring far too often as the likes of Thiago, Jordan Henderson and James Milner aren’t getting any younger, while Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cannot be relied on.

The frequent absences even allowed 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic to become a key player, before he also suffered an injury.

Therefore, Mount would most likely start on a weekly basis.

Of course, that would also presumably be the case at Newcastle, but we feel Mount has more chance of developing further under Klopp than he would under Eddie Howe.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen this summer.
