Crystal Palace are struggling under Patrick Vieira as the Frenchman now finds himself under intense pressure at Selhurst Park.

The south Londoners are still without a win in 2023 and are now just three points above the relegation zone, with Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton signalling a fourth consecutive game without scoring.

During that loss, the Crystal Palace fans made their frustration loud and clear in the 70th minute.

What’s the story?

Well, the Crystal Palace supporters could be heard booing at the Amex Stadium after Vieira withdrew Michael Olise in place of Jordan Ayew.

The 21-year-old was arguably Crystal Palace’s best player before he was hauled off.

WhoScored shows that Olise had three shots – with one on target – while also recording one key pass and two successful dribbles.

In stark contrast, Ayew represents more of a defensive-minded forward, so the change was baffling as Crystal Palace were in desperate need of a goal.

Unsurprisingly, the Ghana international did little to change the game, and the Eagles failed to find the net once again.

Therefore, Crystal Palace have still only scored just nine goals from open play in the Premier League this season in 27 games, which is a shocking return.

Crystal Palace will probably stick with Vieira

In our view, those in the boardroom at Selhurst Park will look at how much difficulty Leeds and Southampton faced in their pursuits to find new managers, and opt to stick with Vieira.

Leeds found themselves rejected by the likes of Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot before turning to Javi Gracia, while Southampton simply decided to promote Ruben Selles from within.

It is bleak out there in the managerial market right now, to say the least.

Of course, the likes of Marcelo Bielsa and Ralph Hasenhuttl are available, but we could only envisage one of them arriving at Selhurst Park in the summer, as they do not carry the firefighter reputation Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis once did.
