Fulham are now struggling to get Marco Silva to sign a new contract to fend off increasing interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Portuguese is a candidate to replace Antonio Conte.

That is according to 90min, which reports Fulham are desperate to get Silva to agree a new contract. The 45-year-old’s current deal at Craven Cottage will expire in June 2024. But the west Londoner’s bid to negotiate fresh terms with their manager have now hit an impasse.

Talks between Fulham and Silva have stalled as Tottenham are showing increased interest in the Lisbon-born manager replacing Conte. Spurs are looking high and low for a potential new head coach for next season with the 53-year-old set to walk at the end of his contract.

Fulham see their contract talks with Silva stall as Tottenham’s interest increases

Conte will hit the end of his current deal in north London in June. He only agreed to an 18-month contract to replace Nuno Espirito Santo in November 2021. Tottenham also hold an option to extend his terms by a further 12 months. But it is highly unlikely that he stays on.

So, Silva has emerged as one candidate to replace Conte having fascinated Tottenham with his success at Fulham. The former Hull City, Watford and Everton boss led the Cottagers to the 2021/22 Championship title during his first season at the helm as the runaway leaders.

Why are Spurs looking at the Cottagers boss to replace Conte at the helm?

Fulham have also ditched their previous yo-yo status under Silva to claim their place in the Premier League again. He has the Cottagers sitting eighth in the table across 27 games and in the race for a European berth. They are also only nine points worse off than Tottenham.

So, Tottenham are looking at Silva to replace Conte as their next manager. Sky Sports cited Spurs’ interest in the Cottagers boss potentially moving across the capital first. But The Sun also reports that he is emerging as a leading candidate for Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici.

The Spurs chairman and managing director are spearheading Tottenham’s efforts to find a replacement for Conte. And it seems Silva’s successes at Fulham could land the coach who impressed Pep Guardiola en route to lifting the Championship title the job in the summer.

“It’s not just the goals they score,” Guardiola said, via Sky Sports. “The way they play, the positional is exceptional. Everyone moves for his teammate. I’m happy for him.”
