Ray Parlour has warned Vincent Kompany of potentially ‘jumping ship’ and taking the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s job because he has a ‘project’ at Burnley, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (13/03/23).

The Highbury legend added that he can see Kompany being the Manchester City manager ‘in a few years’ rather than taking the reins at Tottenham.

The 36-year-old is on the verge of helping Burnley earn promotion to the Premier League in what is his first job in English football after retirement.

The former Anderlecht manager is 17 points clear at the top of the Championship table with the Clarets, not just chasing promotion, but a record-breaking one and possibly hitting 100+ points.

All of this has seen the former centre-back attracting interest from those already in England’s top-flight, with surprise claims that Spurs could be looking at the Belgian to replace Antonio Conte if he leaves in the summer.

Ray Parlour was told by talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil that he has heard that rumour as well and this was the former Premier League star’s response.

“Who told you?” asked Parlour. “It was Conte, he rang him up,” the former Arsenal midfielder laughed. “There was no point telling us that, then you don’t tell us who it is. What sources have you got? It wasn’t your dog, was it?!

“He (Kompany) has done a great job. I like the loyalty of some managers. Burnley have given him the opportunity to manage their club and you don’t want to jump ship straight away at a bigger job. He has a project now.

“You can see him being Man City manager. He will be Man City’s manager in a few years.”

KOMPANY DESTINED FOR MAN CITY

It’s not just the crazy and consistent results that Kompany is putting up as Burnley’s boss, but the manner of performances and the complete shift in the style of play at the club.

Burnley are used to being direct and aggressive in their play, but watching the team at Turf Moor now is more Barcelona than Barnet.

In terms of profile, Kompany suits what Manchester City would want when they eventually look to replace Pep Guardiola in the future, and with his current contract running out in 2025, perhaps the former centre-back will be ready by then because he is on an upward trajectory.
