Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web report that Harry Winks was ‘crushed’ by Juventus’ midfield on Sunday as the Tottenham star failed to prevent Sampdoria losing 4-2 – with Winks and Sampdoria looking likely to suffer relegation.

Winks, 27, clocked up his ninth outing for Sampdoria since joining the Serie A side on loan from Spurs last season. He spent the entire first half of the season out with an ankle injury. But he has since started Sampdoria’s last eight games.

Sampdoria are winless in 15 Serie A matches. They sit rock-bottom of the Serie A table, and with only 12 games left to play, they are 12 points adrift of safety. Sampdoria are as good as down. Winks is more than likely to return to Spurs.

But, his performances and fitness is slowly improving after such a long-term issue. He completed the entire game for Sampdoria on Sunday, but failed to make a real impact in the middle of the park. Juventus cruised to a 4-2 victory.

TMW gave Winks a rating of 5.5/10 in a player ratings piece posted after the game. They say the England midfielder was ‘crushed’ by Juve’s midfield comprising of two-goal Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Fagioli and Enzo Barrenechea.

“He starts quietly, crushed by the power of the Juventus midfield. He takes the field as the minutes go by, making the game of Stankovic’s team spin as usual but in the second half it drops again in intensity,” TMW reported on Winks.

Ultimately, it was more minutes in the tank for Winks. Right now, Winks has little future at Spurs and with Sampdoria set to be relegated – the England star is playing for his future. Not at either of his current clubs, but at a new team.

Plenty will be looking on at Winks and his performances in Sampdoria’s midfield. He is impressing and getting better with every outing. He is reminding all what he is capable of, even in the midst of Sampdoria’s awful run of form.
