Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is offering himself to AC Milan amid shock links with a summer move to Manchester City.

That’s according to Pianeta Milan over in Italy, who claim that Kovacic wants a move to the San Siro.

It’s claimed that Kovacic actually met with Milan chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara in London last week.

Milan took on Tottenham in the Champions League last week and Kovacic pitched himself as a potential summer signing.

That sounds pretty bold but maybe Kovacic is desperate to leave Chelsea in the summer.

The Croatian is inside the final 18 months of his Chelsea contract and may well decide that it’s time to leave the Blues.

A move to Milan would be quite controversial though, given that he once starred with their bitter rivals Inter Milan.

Milan aren’t ruling out a deal with Kovacic seemingly under consideration if Maldini and co chase a new midfielder.

Mateo Kovacic has been surprisingly linked to Manchester City

Kovacic, 28, has started Chelsea’s last three games and appears to have an important role under Graham Potter.

Yet with his contract running down, Kovacic could end up leaving Chelsea – just like Jorginho did in January.

Kovacic was linked with a shock move last week as The Telegraph reported that Manchester City are interested.

Pep Guardiola may well sense a bargain for Kovacic, who is an incredibly-gifted midfielder that suits the City style of play.

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, Kovacic could become a replacement for out-of-contract Ilkay Gundogan.

Chelsea may not love the idea of selling a player to a direct rival but they allowed Jorginho’s move to Arsenal and Kovacic could fit a similar bill.

One problem for City may be that Kovacic appears to be keen on heading back to Italy – so much so that he would join Inter’s rivals.

The lure of City is strong but there could be a real battle with Milan on the horizon if the reports of a meeting last week are true.
