West Ham United have been planning for a future beyond David Moyes and that’s why Michael Carrick is on the radar.
That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that West Ham are backing Moyes despite a disappointing run of form.
Yet it’s added that West Ham have been planning for the future and ultimately looking at potential Moyes replacements.
One name that West Ham have become attracted to is Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick.
It’s suggested that Carrick is ‘prominent’ on West Ham’s potential shortlist to replace Moyes whenever the day comes.
Carrick has worked wonders at Middlesbrough, turning them into Championship promotion contenders after struggling under Chris Wilder.
The Hammers have been paying close attention and may hope to land Carrick in the future as they continue to back Moyes.
Michael Carrick could make emotional West Ham United return
If the Hammers do end up making a move for Carrick in the future, a deal would see him make an emotional return to East London.
Whilst Carrick was born in Wallsend up in the North East but managed to slip Newcastle United’s radar.
Carrick instead moved to West Ham as a teenager and became a first-team star for the Hammers.
Carrick notched six goals in 159 games for the Hammers before being sold to rivals Tottenham Hotspur for £3.5million.
The 41-year-old excelled at Tottenham, became an England regular and a Manchester United legend in a superb career.
Now shining as a manager with a superb brand of football at Middlesbrough, Carrick could end up back at West Ham nearly 20 years since he was sold.
Much will depend on Middlesbrough’s promotion fate but Carrick’s name won’t be disappearing from the West Ham wish list any time soon – and that they’re even looking at names suggests Moyes isn’t completely safe right now.
