Ian Wright has praised the impact January transfer signing Leandro Trossard has had at Arsenal after his three assists helped Mikel Arteta’s side beat Fulham 3-0 on Sunday at Craven Cottage.

The Arsenal legend added that the Fulham players ‘couldn’t get anywhere near’ the former Brighton man.

After Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday, their title rivals responded by dispatching Fulham with pure ease.

Before the game, there was doubt about whether Trossard and Martin Odegaard would start because of illness, but they both were named in the starting XI and they cooked Marco Silva’s side all over the pitch.

It was a display of pure dominance and title-winning quality. Whilst they needed a dramatic later winner to beat Bournemouth last week, the heart was beating a lot calmer this time around.

Trossard was the main problem for European-chasing Fulham and Wright waxed-lyrical about the 28-year-old, as he told Premier League Productions (12/03/23 at 4:10 pm).

“Since he has come, he has contributed right from the off,” said Wright. “They couldn’t get near him, in his movement, whether he came in from the left or he came from the centre.

“He can get himself in this position (goalscoring positions) and not panic. When you consider the signings we were trying to make and we ended up getting someone like Trossard, it was a blessing. He has come into the team and he has hit the ground running.

“When you have a player of that calibre, who is a very, very good player. He has just come in, and the reason why he has hit the ground running is because he is up to speed with the Premier League. He knows exactly what’s needed.

“To get a signing like that, who can come in and be up to speed, it’s invaluable to us. He is showing that, from the first game until now. He has been an unbelievable addition to the squad.”

TROSSARD IS AN AMAZING SIGNING

A player of high technical quality, outstanding touch, acceleration in the final third and versatility in his play. Trossard is proving to be an amazing signing for the club.

That’s five assists and a goal for the Belgium international and he is starting to prove why he was brought to the club.

Mykhailo Mudryk might have been the first option, but sometimes in life, the best things come in the form of a blessing and this is a blessing in disguise for the Premier League leaders.
