Jamie Carragher has said that if Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, they should replace him with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.

The 43-year-old responded to his links to Spurs by admitting that was he ‘happy’ and ‘proud’ to be considered as a viable candidate for the role.

The Italian manager has garnered a lot of praise for his work at the Amex Stadium, with his side sitting in 8th place, just 7 points off the top 4 after 26 games played.

As constant rumours have circulated about the Antonio Conte era coming to an end at Tottenham, Jamie Carragher has suggested the club to bring in Roberto De Zerbi.

Names such as Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank have been speculated with taking over the helm at the Lilywhites if the ex-Chelsea manager departs.

However, Jamie Carragher has said that Roberto De Zerbi would be the ideal successor to Antonio Conte in a managerial capacity at Tottenham.

“Now, Spurs must look to the future with their replacement, seeking a coach who will deliver on [Daniel] Levy’s promise to play with the style supporters crave.”

“When you see the impact of Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton, there are obvious echoes of Pochettino at Southampton: a young, hungry coach making an instant impact with an exciting brand of football”, he wrote in his column for the Telegraph.

Unlikely to join Tottenham next season

While there have been murmurs about Antonio Conte potentially even leaving Tottenham this season, it seems unlikely that Roberto De Zerbi even joins them in the following campaign.

Considering the ex-Sassuolo tactician’s project is booming at Brighton and he signed on the dotted line for the club mid-season in the first place, it would be a surprise to see him jump ship as quickly as some expect.

Furthermore, the highly-rated coach is likely to have top offers down the line, which is why Spurs should look elsewhere.
