Alan Shearer has included Liverpool ace Andy Robertson in his Premier League Team of the Week after Sunday’s huge 7-0 win over Manchester United – with Shearer saying Robertson produced one of his best displays in a Reds shirt.

Coming into the game, Manchester United’s recent form suggested they might have a chance of getting a result at Anfield. But no-one saw what was about to unfold. At least, in the second 45, in which the Reds scored six goals.

It was Robertson that got the ball rolling. His defence-splitting pass set Cody Gakpo on his way and the newest Reds star did the rest, placing Liverpool’s opener into the net. Liverpool went on to score another six on Sunday afternoon.

A perfect display from the Reds and certainly, an impeccable outing from £160,000-a-week Robertson. A player that has not been at his best this season, like many of his teammates. But Shearer was blown away by the Reds defender.

“Superb,” Shearer said, when discussing Reds ace Robertson in his Premier League Team of the Week. “This has to be up there with his best performances in a Liverpool shirt. He tore Manchester United to pieces down the left flank.”

He was near-perfect. An unused sub in the previous match, it might be that Jurgen Klopp played a masterstroke with the Scotland captain – resting him, and then unleashing the left-back against one of Liverpool’s most bitter rivals.

Is this the start Reds fans have been waiting for all season? Is this the win that catapults Jurgen Klopp’s men back into the top four, and back to their best? We will have to wait and see. But it did look like the Liverpool that we are used to.
