Jamie Carragher has said that it is exciting from a Liverpool perspective to see the front 3 of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah look as frightening as it did against Manchester United.
Shaun Wright-Phillips and Paul Merson have previously pointed out how Jurgen Klopp must rue the fact that he sanctioned the sale of Sadio Mane in the summer, attributing much of their decline to his departure this season.
Now, Jamie Carragher has said how the fact that Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all scored braces in their 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United could mean a new frightening front 3 may be developing at Liverpool.
Carragher talks about the Nunez-Gakpo-Salah front 3 after Liverpool vs Manchester United
Ultimately, with Roberto Firmino telling Jurgen Klopp about his desire to leave Anfield next season, the team was in serious need of reinforcing their forward line.
Jamie Carragher said that on Sunday, there were signs that Liverpool may have found their new-look front 3, with Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah ripping Manchester United apart.
“The announcement on Roberto Firmino not being at the club next season, Sadio Mane at the start of the season moving on and Liverpool just not being at the races for a lot of this season, it just felt nice to see [Cody] Gakpo, [Darwin] Nunez, [Mohamed] Salah; still got [Luis] Diaz to come back, [Diogo] Jota to come back, they could be the makings of a new front 3”, he said on Sky Sports via Football Daily.

“Will it ever get to that [Mane, Firmino and Salah front 3] level? We don’t know. But let’s not forget, Manchester United are top quality opposition. Coming into this game, probably one of the most in-form teams in Europe. So, for your attacking players to be that devastating on the day and score those amount of goals, I think would bode well for the future in terms of Liverpool getting back to their old selves of taking teams apart and scoring goals.”
Carragher is spot on as Liverpool could well be set for the next couple of years if the Nunez-Gakpo-Salah front 3 is as lethal as it was against Manchester United.
