Tottenham Hotspur may have a real chance of signing Robert Sanchez after he was dropped by Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi.
Fantasy football players were left scratching their heads at 2pm on Saturday.
Sanchez has been a popular goalkeeper for many years now but he was axed from the Brighton team against West Ham United.
Boss De Zerbi instead decided to go with Jason Steele in goal, handing him just a second Premier League appearance for the club.
That decision seemed to be a surprise but De Zerbi made his motivations clear.
De Zerbi told The Argus that he feels Steele is playing better than Sanchez right now.
Furthermore, De Zerbi thinks Steele is better for his style of play and thinks Sanchez needs to develop in the Brighton side.
That’s a major shock and Sanchez may now face being on the bench for a while yet.

Door may be open for Tottenham to sign Robert Sanchez
The reason this decision came as such a surprise is that Sanchez has been attracting major interest of late.
90Min reported in November that Sanchez was one name on Tottenham’s radar as they look to find an heir to Hugo Lloris.
The Mirror even claimed that Manchester United and Chelsea were both eyeing up Sanchez for a potential move.
Graham Potter hailed his ‘amazing’ shot-stopping ability, so maybe links to Chelsea aren’t all that surprising .
The Spaniard has impressed as a ball-playing goalkeeper but there is seemingly something that De Zerbi doesn’t completely love.
This may well open the door for Tottenham – or another Premier League club – to pounce for Sanchez this summer.
Yet those interested clubs may end up asking themselves if they want to pay big money for a goalkeeper now benched by Brighton.
The coming months will be huge for Sanchez and his future, with Tottenham no doubt paying close attention to his situation on the South Coast.
