Tottenham Hotspur reportedly see Elye Wahi as a potential Harry Kane replacement but the Montpellier forward may be ideally suited to Premier League leaders Arsenal instead, World Cup winner Bixente Lizarazu tells Foot Sur 7.

Unless Richarlison can turn things around and fast, Spurs’ reputation as something of a graveyard for talented number nines will become increasingly difficult to dispel. Fernando Llorente and Carlos Vinicius struggled in North London. And it’s easy to forget that both Roberto Soldado and Vincent Janssen were prolific goalscorers before arriving at Tottenham too.

Richarlison, meanwhile, scored more times at the Qatar World Cup than in 23 games since becoming Spurs’ £60 million record signing.

Such a dire reputation when it comes to getting the best out of strikers not named ‘Harry Kane’ is unlikely to go unnoticed by Wahi’s camp as one of Europe’s most talented young attackers weighs up his next step.

Is Arsenal are better fit than Tottenham Hotspur for Elye Wahi?

Tottenham, German reporter Christian Falk believes, see 20-year-old Wahi as a potential addition if Kane does depart this summer. Lizarazu, however, believes the France U19 international may be better served joining the club a few miles down the road instead.

“(Wahi) has great athletic qualities. He runs very fast, he is very lively, very skilful in front of goal. If he makes the right choices (he can go far),” says the former Bayern Munich defender; a World Cup winner on home soil back in 1998.

“When I hear about Arsenal or Dortmund, I consider that it would be a good choice for a young player to go to these clubs. (Wahi must) progress further. Even if, with Montpellier, he has already made enormous progress.

“It is rare to have attackers so young and so precocious. There is an additional level to go to, probably abroad.”

The £25 million-rated Wahi has eight goals and two assists in Ligue 1 for Montpellier this season.

Richarlison, meanwhile, drew another blank during Spurs’ FA Cup exit at Sheffield United on Wednesday night. His only Tottenham goals came against Marseille all the way back in September.
