Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill, according to a report from Goal.

The 20-year-old centre-back is currently on loan at Brighton, where he has been impressing with his performances in the Premier League, despite not being a regular starter.

Colwill also spent time on loan at Huddersfield Town last season, where he played a key role in their run to the playoff final before heartbreak at Wembley.

Colwill joined Chelsea at the age of eight and has risen through the ranks of the academy system. According to reports, Chelsea are keen to sign him to a new deal, so this may not be an easy transfer to push through.

Liverpool are in need of defensive reinforcements, with Joe Matip and Joe Gomez both struggling for form as of late, the Reds need some fresh blood in their team.

Colwill could play a huge part in the Merseyside club’s rebuild. The Reds have a strong crop young players coming through right now, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott all currently at the club.

However, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea would be willing to sell Colwill, especially given their current defensive problems. Thiago Silva isn’t getting any younger, while Cesar Azpilicueta appears to be on his way out of the club too.

It is stated by Goal that the rivalry between Chelsea and Liverpool will make a deal difficult, but it’s not impossible as we’ve seen these two clubs do business before with players such as Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge crossing this divide.

Mason Mount has also been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, so there could be a double swoop from Chelsea on the cards this summer.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will make a move for Colwill in the summer, but if they do, they’ll be landing a very talented young man.
