Virgil van Dijk thinks Liverpool fans were ‘quite nervous’ during their 2-0 win over Wolves and he is hoping for a ‘big atmosphere’ on Sunday against Manchester United at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s men secured a much-needed three points over the Midlands outfit on Wednesday night, with van Dijk opening the scoring late in the second half, before he was backed up by Mo Salah.

From conceding five to Real Madrid in the Champions League to their many morale-sapping away defeats.

That abject Liverpool performance, which has become the norm this season, always seems to be around the corner.

But in recent weeks, in the Premier League at least, they have picked up, including four clean sheets on the bounce.

Van Dijk acknowledges that Liverpool are now facing an ‘in-form’ Manchester United side, as he told Premier League Productions (01/03/23 at 10:40 pm).

“We need a big atmosphere on Sunday,” said van Dijk. “I think today it was quite nervous, I think.

“Hopefully, on Sunday, we can get everyone at their best, including us because we have to do the hard work on the pitch against an in-form Manchester United.

“We will recover and we will be ready for Sunday, of course.”

CAN LIVERPOOL TURN THEIR SEASON AROUND?

Whilst the Anfield faithful will admit that they are heading for the exit door in the Champions League. Can they salvage something from the Premier League?

Their recent runs of results, and certainly clean sheets, are pointing towards that.

But it will be helped big time by them beating Manchester United on Sunday, especially given that Erik ten Hag’s men can do nothing wrong right now.

After winning the League Cup on Sunday at Wembley, they beat West Ham 2-1 with a 90th-minute winner on Wednesday night to book their quarter-final ticket in the FA Cup.
