Cesc Fabregas is nearing retirement – and he wants to emulate Mikel Arteta by eventually becoming Arsenal boss one day.

That’s according to Catalan newspaper SPORT, who claim that Fabregas will retire at the end of the season.

Currently in Italy with Como in Serie B, Fabregas is seemingly ready to hang up his boots as he approaches 36.

Fabregas wants to go into coaching and wants to be like three fellow Spaniards.

Pep Guardiola, Xavi and Mikel Arteta are the men Fabregas wants to emulate and he is understood to have already spent time with Arteta, watching Arsenal training.

It’s added that the dream for Fabregas is to become Arsenal or Barcelona manager one day, returning to his former clubs.

Cesc Fabregas may face a wait for Arsenal job

Fabregas worked under Guardiola at Barcelona and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, so if he can take some of their methods into management, he may fare well.

Yet if Fabregas wants to manage Arsenal, he may need to wait a while.

Arteta doesn’t look to be going anywhere any time soon and could have real longevity at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta is only 40 and already has Arsenal gunning for the Premier League title just three years into his managerial career.

Arsenal fans will have real confidence that Arteta can keep Arsenal challenging at the top for a while yet.

That means – unless Arteta receives an unbelievable offer from elsewhere – then he won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

Fabregas likely knows that he won’t just walk into a top job like Arsenal.

Arteta chose to learn his craft under Guardiola at City and Fabregas would be wise to do the same – or go off and chase a managerial job elsewhere to get his big start.

Fabregas leaving Arsenal didn’t go down well at the time but maybe he feels a sense of unfinished business and wants to become manager at the Emirates Stadium one day.
