Roy Keane has told ITV Sport’s coverage of Bristol City’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup that he can see a Jack Grealish quality in young midfielder Alex Scott – amid reports Newcastle and Tottenham want the £25m starlet.

Scott, 19, has been compared to Grealish in the past and is earning rave reviews for his performances at Ashton Gate. The England U19 midfielder has clocked up 81 games for Nigel Pearson’s side, having a hand in 12 goals so far.

More of a box-to-box midfielder, the youngster is renowned for his ability on the ball – but also a tenacious streak. Just this season, he has 10 yellow cards in 39 league and cup games. His contract is set to last until the summer of 2025.

The Sun report that Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham want Scott – who is rated at £25m. Having watched Scott impress despite City going on to win 3-0 in the FA Cup fifth round, Keane gave his verdict. He was very impressed.

Speaking pre-match, Keane said: “He is almost in the shop window tonight. He is a top footballer and let’s see how he gets on tonight.” Keane added at half-time: “You can see he has a Jack Grealish about his play. Brilliant to watch.”

Keane can see Grealish in Scott amid Newcastle and Tottenham reports

Scott is a super talent and even in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, he impressed. A move to the Premier League looks more than likely. But more than that – because, Scott is a homegrown player which is crucial – especially for Tottenham.

Spurs are teetering on the edge of Champions League registration rules when it comes to including eight homegrown players in a 25-man squad for the competition. With Spurs solidfying their place in fourth, they need English players.

Scott is that and while he is some way away from the first team, he might be a good squad player to be able to include in Tottenham’s team. However, Scott will know that his chances of first-team action are greater at Newcastle.
