Loris Karius started for Newcastle United on Sunday in the Carabao Cup final and impressed for the Toon despite a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United – and now, FC Inter News claim Inter Milan want to sign the goalkeeper on a free transfer.
Karius, 29, came into the Newcastle side with Nick Pope suspended and Martin Dubravka cup-tied. Karl Darlow had gone on loan to Hull City. It was the ex-Liverpool star’s first game since turning out for Union Berlin in February 2021.
He made a number of saves to deny the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst. He could do little about Casemiro’s header – and while there was some criticism he did not stop Rashford’s goal, it was deflected.
So, what next for Karius? The chances are that Dubravka comes back into the side for a trip to Manchester City this weekend. Pope is banned for the next two games. It might be Karius’ only outing. His contract expires in the summer.

The report claims that Inter Milan are looking for a goalkeeper to replace Samir Handanovic, who is acting as cover for Andre Onana. Karius is one of a number of options on Inter’s list. It might be then, that he leaves Newcastle for Inter.
Inter want to sign Newcastle goalkeeper Loris Karius on a free transfer
What a move it would be for Karius. To go from not playing a single minute of football in almost two years, to playing in the Carabao Cup final and then, joining one of the biggest footballing institutions in world football – is incredible.
Even if it means he would only be acting as cover. But what Karius did prove on Sunday afternoon, is that he is still more than capable of impressing at the top level. He did keep 22 clean sheets in 49 Liverpool games, remember.
