Liverpool have allegedly tried to sign Caglar Soyuncu – two years since Michael Edwards wanted to bring him to Anfield.
The Reds are expected to make a number of changes this summer and a new centre back may well be wanted.
Joel Matip is a fading force, Joe Gomez is so inconsistent and Ibrahima Konate has endured niggling injury problems.
Fans want Josko Gvardiol to join Liverpool this summer but the Reds were seemingly looking for a much cheaper alternative.
90Min claim that Liverpool expressed a keen interest in signing Leicester City defender Soyuncu.
The Turkish defender is a free agent this summer but talks with Liverpool failed to progress, which is the same story as with Newcastle United.
Soyuncu has instead agreed terms to join Atletico Madrid, meaning Liverpool have missed out.

Michael Edwards wanted Caglar Soyuncu at Liverpool
It’s a little surprising to hear that Liverpool wanted Soyuncu.
The 26-year-old has only featured in two Premier League games this season and has effectively been frozen out at Leicester.
Soyuncu didn’t exactly shine last season either and the initial excitement over his Leicester displays has died down.
It’s hard to imagine that Soyuncu would have solved Liverpool’s problems but maybe they have taken a liking to him despite his Foxes struggles.
This may even go back to 2021 as The Mirror reported that Michael Edwards – Liverpool’s sporting director at the time – had ben personally impressed with Soyuncu.
The former Freiburg man was understood to be on a five-man shortlist as Liverpool chased a new centre back.
That list also featured Ibrahima Konate, the defender Liverpool did end up signing.
Edwards may have moved on but Liverpool appear to still like Soyuncu and looked into a bargain move.
It wasn’t to be, and Liverpool must now look elsewhere for a new defensive signing.
