Speaking to Off the Ball, Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Liverpool’s newest star, Stefan Bajcetic.

The Spanish midfielder has come into this Liverpool team and he has immediately looked like one of the Reds’ best players.

As ever, Lawrenson didn’t want to pile the pressure on an 18-year-old by praising him too much, and while he hates to make such bold claims so early, the pundit did have to concede that he has been the Reds’ best player as of late.

Lawrenson hails Bajcetic

The pundit spoke incredibly highly of the midfielder.

“He’s a player. I hate to go so early when you see a young player come into the team, but he’s been outstanding. I’ve been at all of the last five or six games and he’s been outstanding and he has been the best player. It remains to be seen today what will happen. He got Fabinho back at the weekend, Henderson is there as well, you need that experience, but Bajcetic is different and he’s made all of the difference,” Lawrenson said.

“He has no fear at the moment, he probably goes home after training and says ‘this is easy, I wish I’d done this two years ago when I was a real kid.”

Careful

As Lawrenson says, he hates to praise a young player so early in his career, and you do have to be careful with praise for these players.

This sort of publicity can get to a young players’ head, and that can destroy their drive to continue to improve and get better.

Luckily, Bajcetic has great people around him as teammates and coaches, and while he may begin to believe his own hype, it shouldn’t be too hard for him to stay grounded around this Liverpool squad.

One thing is for sure though, as Lawrenson says, Bajcetic is an outstanding player.
