Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krosche is emerging as a candidate to become Liverpool’s new sporting director at the end of the season.

That’s according to The Athletic, who report that Krosche is ‘attracting interest at Anfield’ ahead of a possible move.

Liverpool have faced some real upheaval in their recruitment department of late.

Michael Edwards left his post as Liverpool’s sporting director last summer with Julian Ward taking his place.

Ward now plans to leave Anfield at the end of the season too, leaving Liverpool to look for yet another sporting director.

A few names have been mentioned in recent months, including former Arsenal man Sven Mislintat.

It’s another German linked this time though as Frankfurt chief Krosche is believed to be a Liverpool target.

Who is Liverpool target Markus Krosche?

Krosche was a Paderborn hero in his playing days, spending 13 years with the club and racking up more than 350 appearances after a stint with Werder Bremen’s second team.

Krosche turned to management after his playing days as he took over at Paderborn II, but he lasted just a year.

After a spell as assistant manager to Roger Schmidt at Bayer Leverkusen, Krosche turned his hand to recruitment.

After becoming Paderborn’s sporting director, Krosche landed a major job as he took the same role with RB Leipzig.

A vital part of the Leipzig operation, Krosche oversaw incoming deals for Dani Olmo, Christopher Nkunku, Josko Gvardiol and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Krosche also had a hand in the major sale of Timo Werner to Chelsea before departing for Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021.

The 42-year-old has continued to enhance his reputation given that Frankfurt won the Europa League last season.

Krosche secured the signing of Jesper Lindstrom, a player Liverpool have been linked with, as well as Randal Kolo Muani, Mario Gotze and Paxten Aaronson.

Krosche’s fine work in Germany may now give him a move to Liverpool, where he would work alongside compatriot Jurgen Klopp.

A history in the Red Bull setup tends to be attractive to Liverpool and Krosche could fit the bill as Ward’s replacement moving forward.
