Graham Potter’s Chelsea are shelving contract talks with Mason Mount until the end of the season as Liverpool lurk for a potential summer transfer.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Chelsea have made several offers to Mount as they attempt to secure a new contract.

However, Mount has rejected all of Chelsea’s offers and talks are now being put on the back burner until the summer window.

Mount will only have a year left on his contract by that point, leaving Chelsea with limited options.

They can either throw everything at Mount – who wants around £240,000-a-week in wages according to The Daily Mail – or alternatively sell him.

Allowing Mount to play out the final year of his deal is an option, but that seems unlikely.

Chelsea will focus on turning around their Premier League form with mount’s contract now put to one side for the next few months.

Liverpool may have real shot at signing Mason Mount amid contract uncertainty

Many Premier League clubs would no doubt love to sign Mount and Liverpool appear to be very keen.

ESPN claim that Liverpool are in the race to sign Mount alongside Manchester City and Manchester United.

The Daily Mail add that Liverpool are ‘pushing hard’ to sign Mount this summer having identified him as a key target.

That may well depend on how Liverpool’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham goes, but the Reds do appear to be keen on Mount.

There have been noises that Mount doesn’t feel like he is key to Chelsea’s project moving forward anymore.

Liverpool could have a real chance here; a fee would surely be somewhat reduced if Mount is inside the final year of his contract.

£240,000-a-week seems a little steep but Mount could play a vital role in a new-look Liverpool side under Jurgen Klopp.

The so-called ‘big six’ don’t often do deals with each other, but Mount moving from Chelsea to Liverpool seems a real possibility.
