Celtic lost Josip Juranovic in January after failing to agree a new contract with the Croatia international.

The 27-year-old eventually left Celtic Park to join Union Berlin in a £10m deal, with Ange Postecoglou swiftly signing Alistair Johnson as his replacement.

Now, Juranovic is showing Celtic what they lost with some impressive displays – despite a solid start to life in Glasgow for Johnson.

What’s the story?

Well, Juranovic is involved in the UEFA Europe League with Union Berlin, helping the German side record a 0-0 draw against Ajax in the first leg of their Round of 32 clash.

The Croatian delivered a fantastic display against the Dutch giants, providing five key passes and three successful crosses, while also making three interceptions – according to SofaScore.

As a result, Juranovic earned a 7.8 match rating, which SofaScore has registered to be the best performance of any Croatian involved in the knockout phase of UEFA competitions across the past week.

His performance even puts him ahead of £180,000-a-week Tottenham man Ivan Perisic, who has made 79 appearances across the Champions League and Europa League throughout his career, and is a vastly experienced footballer at this level.

Celtic did well to prepare for Juranovic situation

In our view, Celtic prepared themselves well for the departure of Juranovic.

Quite often, we see teams leave themselves short after a key player departs, with some sides even failing to sign a replacement months on.

However, Celtic acted decisively to sign Johnson when it became apparent that Juranovic would be leaving, while also making a very tidy profit on their initial £2.5m investment to sign the Croatian from Legia Warsaw.

Not only did they find a replacement, but is also seems Postecoglou found a reliable one based on how Johnson has performed so far.

Regardless of how well Juranovic does at Union Berlin, Celtic can be pleased by how they dealt with his exit.
