Paul Merson has written in The Daily Star that Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli looks lost at the moment.

The former Gunners star has said that Arsenal and Brazil international forward Martinelli is out of form now.

The Sky Sports pundit has noted that Bukayo Saka, Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard are also out of form.

Merson made the comments about the four Arsenal players after the defeat to Manchester City in midweek.

The Gunners will face Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend.

Arsenal have been struggling for positive results for a while now, and there is a danger that defending champions Manchester City could pull ahead in the race for the Premier League title this season.

Paul Merson on Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli

Merson wrote: “I’ve seen it so many times in the past three weeks, Arsenal are whacking their head against a brick wall and the wingers just stay where they are. Why don’t they just swap sides? It’s getting boring now, everyone has sussed Arsenal out.

“They need to change it up because four of Mikel Arteta’s key players are bang out of form all at once. Gabriel Martinelli looks lost, Saka isn’t getting on the ball, Martin Odegaard is enduring a difficult time and Granit Xhaka has gone off the boil.”

Place under threat?

Gabriel Martinelli has not been at his best for a while now, and we think that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should drop him in favour of Leandro Trossard.

Trossard has done well for the Gunners since his move in the January transfer window.

The Belgium international winger is making an impact off the bench.

And maybe it is time for Arteta to given Trossard a run of games in the starting lineup and drop the £180,000-a-week (The Sun journalist Daniel Cutts on Twitter) Martinelli.
