The Athletic journalist Chris Waugh has said that those within the Newcastle United dressing room have told him that tiredness has set into the group after their 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, which could explain their declining form.

Recently, the results have not made for great reading for Eddie Howe’s men, as they have also been restricted to draws against West Ham United and Leicester City. While the Magpies are undoubtedly having a superb season, they have had more draws (11) than victories (10) in the Premier League, which may hold them back in their search for top 4.

However, the renowned journalist has been told after Newcastle United drew to Bournemouth that tiredness within the dressing room is a factor behind their recent slump.

Journalist details dressing room message after Newcastle drew to Bournemouth

Eddie Howe and Co. will be hoping that they return to their best, especially as Bruno Guimaraes, who they statistically suffer without will be back in contention to start against Liverpool on the weekend.

Now, Chris Waugh has told the Pod on the Tyne the reason behind the blips stated by those within the Newcastle dressing room in recent weeks after the Bournemouth result, saying, “For the first time, I exchanged a few messages with people inside the dressing room and there was even an acceptance that they probably were jaded down there.”

“That was from people even inside the dressing room. So, I think there is an acceptance that they’ve reached a certain stage in the season physically in terms of just the number of players who have gone down and who they’re having to use over and over again. Eddie Howe has 14 or 15 players he calls upon over and over again, which says a lot about squad depth.”

“But then also psychologically, it probably has slipped towards Wembley.”

Well, Newcastle fans will hope that those within the dressing room come together to find a solution to avoid results like they succumbed to against Bournemouth, as bringing in reported targets like Stefan de Vrij, Mason Mount and Piero Hincapie are missions for next season.
