West Ham have reportedly been in contact with Maurizio Sarri over potentially appointing the Italian coach, with the former Chelsea manager also believed to be a target for Tottenham.

According to Il Messaggero via LazioNews24, the east London side have made an approach for the Lazio boss as pressure continues to mount for David Moyes at West Ham, with the Irons sitting 16th in the Premier League standings following on from two seasons of finishing in European spots.

Whilst rumours currently suggest that the Scottish manager will be given time to get West Ham out of their slump, questions are being raised over if Moyes has the capacity to take the Hammers into the future, with Sarri now being approached as a potential option for the Irons.

As per another report from Il Messaggero, though, West Ham aren’t the only side interested in the Italian coach, with Tottenham also viewing Sarr as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte, who looks set to leave north London when his contract expires at the end of this season.

Indeed, Sarri looks set to win a Premier League job this summer, West Ham appointing the former Napoli boss could actually work out quite well for the Hammers, with the 64-year-old perfectly suited to a project club in the Premier League such as the London Stadium side.

Moreover, with West Ham having an incredible squad on paper and strong backing from the club’s owners, the potential is there for Sarri to take the east London side to that next level many were expecting Moyes to take the Irons this season, something which of course is yet to transpire.

Sarri arguably doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves in his sole year in England with Chelsea, with the Italian leading the Blues to European success in the UEFA Europa League and a top-four finish with one of the Blues’ more forgettable teams. And for West Ham, the Lazio boss could be a revelation.

Whilst the Irons are no strangers to appointing coaches with big ideas, Sarri has the potential to unlock many avenues for West Ham and to lead the Hammers into an exciting new era, with the Italian well-suited to take over should Moyes face the chop in the coming weeks.
