Marcelo Gallardo isn’t interested in becoming Southampton manager as they face a similar disappointment to Leeds United.
That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Gallardo has ‘little interest’ in taking over at St Mary’s Stadium.
Southampton decided to sack Nathan Jones on Sunday after just three months in charge.
That appointment just didn’t work and the Saints have decided to accept their mistake and relieve Jones of his duties.
Relegation is a very real fear right now and Southampton need to get their next appointment right.
Gallardo would certainly be a coup for Southampton but it seems that the Argentinian has no plans to make the move.

Southampton face Gallardo disappointment just like Leeds
Gallardo was always going to be an ambitious target for Premier League clubs outside of the top six.
Southampton are in a relegation battle and that was always unlikely to appeal to one of the most in-demand managers in world football.
Leeds have found a similar stance too.
iNews claim that Gallardo is the top choice for Leeds job after the sacking of Jesse Marsch last week.
However, Fabrizio Romano notes that Gallardo has ‘no intention’ of taking the Leeds job.
Gallardo is currently on sabbatical, taking time out of the game having left his role with River Plate in December.
River racked up 14 trophies under Gallardo including two Copa Libertadores titles and one league title in 2021 – that’s why he’s such a wanted man.
The Argentinian isn’t going to return to the game unless it’s for the absolute right job and it looks like Leeds and Southampton aren’t what he’s seeking.
Both clubs must now go back to the drawing board and forget about Gallardo at least until the summer – but a deal at the end of the season still sounds unlikely given Gallardo’s reputation.
