Jamie Carragher has praised Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic on Sky Sports Premier League (8:42pm, February 13, 2023) for his performance against Sean Dyche’s Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby.

Carragher has said that he did not expect Liverpool midfielder Bajcetic to cope with the physicality of the Merseyside derby against Everton on Monday evening.

The former Liverpool defender has admitted that he was wrong about the 18-year-old midfielder.

The Sky Sports pundit praised Spanish youngster for his performance in the first half and described him as “outstanding” in the second period.

Carragher was on co-commentary duty for the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield on Monday evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won the Premier League match with relative ease in the end.

Carragher said in the 40th minute: “Before the game, I wanted Jordan Henderson and Fabinho back in this team.

“I wasn’t sure about the young lad coping with the physicality, Bajcetic. He has been absolutely fantastic in the first half, the young lad.”

The pundit said in the 66th minute: “That young fellow has done really well. His first Merseyside derby, he has been outstanding.”

Impressive performance

In our view, Stefan Bajcetic played well for Liverpool against Everton and was one of the best players on the pitch at Anfield.

The Merseyside derby is not an easy game, but the 18-year-old held his own in the middle of the park and coped well.

Bajcetic may not look very bulky, but he could certainly match the intensity and the physicality that the game demanded.

Now, of course, Bajcetic is only 18, so we should not expect too much of him right now.

However, the signs are very positive for the teenager.

Liverpool could have a gem in Bajcetic.
