Stan Collymore has written in CaughtOffSide that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United should make a move for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison in the summer transfer window.
The former Liverpool striker believes that Newcastle would be a better team with the £110,000-a-week (SalarySport) England international playmaker in it.
The pundit has also outlined why Maddison should join the Magpies and how he would benefit from playing under manager Howe at St. James’ Park.
James Maddison tipped to join Newcastle United
Collymore wrote: “I think when you look at where Newcastle are and the direction they want to head toward, a player like James Maddison fits their profile perfectly.
“They’ve got a strong English core to their side and a creative number 10, who can operate in the wider positions, is the type of player they’re missing.
“Walking into a dressing room that has players around the same age that he can develop with is always important too, so I can definitely see him fitting in well there.

“The fans would love him because the Geordies embrace players who put themselves about and can knit things together. He also has a good eye for goals so he’d contribute in that department too.
“In terms of his own development, I genuinely believe he’d thrive under Eddie Howe – he’s hard-working and he’s direct, and I don’t mean direct in terms of long balls, but Newcastle obviously transition a lot quicker than what Leicester do, so for Maddison, who is capable of playing those one touch, quick, eye-of-a-needle passes, Newcastle’s system would be ideal.”
Could a summer transfer happen?
In our view, Newcastle United could be able to sign James Maddison from Premier League rivals Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
Yes, Leicester are a big and established club in the Premier League and won the title not so long ago, but Newcastle are on the up now and could play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Leaving Leicester for Newcastle at the end of the season would be a step-up for Maddison.
The 26-year-old would be part of something big and special, as Newcastle are aiming to establish themselves among the Premier League elite.
Newcastle have actually been linked with a summer move for Maddison.
According to The Northern Echo, the Magpies are planning a bid for Leicester star Maddison in the summer of 2023.
