Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has noticed the ‘immediate impact’ made by Sean Dyche at Everton while talking up the Toffees’ set-piece threat ahead of the Premier League’s latest Merseyside derby on Monday night, speaking to the Liverpool Echo.

There was something refreshingly old-school about Everton’s 1-0 win over league leaders Arsenal last weekend. A performance, and a result, reminiscent of their David Moyes’ heyday; when The Toffees would make a habit of bloodying the big boys’ noses.

And it was something as simple as good old-fashioned hard-work that laid the foundations for a morale-boosting Everton win. Their running stats rose remarkably against the Gunners, and Klopp’s stumbling side will not have an easy task containing their Merseyside rivals if Amadou Onana, Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and co can maintain their recent uptick at Anfield.

Can Everton claim a famous Merseyside derby win over Liverpool?

“Intensity is an important part of the game. We will give (the players) information ahead of the game. We know it will be difficult. Sean Dyche is there and has made an immediate impact. That is obvious,” Klopp says, his side on a run of one win in seven.

“This is not a time or situation we want to be in, but it is a time when we can show the club is really special. We have to show that reaction.

“I’m really looking forward to a derby atmosphere, a proper atmosphere and a proper, proper football game.”

You couldn’t have scripted it better. Dyche’s first goal in charge at Everton came from a corner kick; one former Burnley favourite (McNeil) assisting another (James Tarkowski).

“Set-pieces will be very important for us,” Klopp adds. You could see that in Everton’s last game. That’s how they scored in the end (against Arsenal). We prepare for the team we saw against Arsenal.”

Everton have only tasted victory once at the home of their arch rivals this century, but that came as recently as 2021; James Rodriguez pulling the strings during a memorable 2-0 win almost two years ago to the day.
