Feyenoord coach Arne Slot insists that he has ‘not heard anything’ from Leeds United regarding a potential move to the Premier League outfit, speaking to ESPN.

Neither you nor us, Michael.

In the aftermath of Wednesday’s thrilling 2-2 draw between Leeds and Manchester United at Old Trafford, interim coach Michael Skubala admitted that he had no idea how long he would remain in temporary charge for.

The big problem Leeds have, it seems, is that their leading managerial candidates are under contract elsewhere, and in the midst of something rather exciting. Carlos Corberan, after all, has West Brom emerging as a clear play-off favourite.

Andoni Iraola’s Rayo Vallecano are dreaming of Champions League qualification.

And Feyenoord, two points clear, are chasing only their second Eredivisie title since the turn of the Century.

Feyenoord coach Arne Slot reportedly a target for Leeds United

“I have not heard anything (from Leeds)”, Slot said following Feyenoord’s remarkable 4-4 draw with NEC Nijmegen in the KNVB Cup on Wednesday, the Rotterdammers eventually prevailing on penalties.

“I’ve read (the rumours). I follow VoetbalPrimeur and Voetbal International. But I haven’t seen anything on my phone yet. What do I do when a message comes in from Leeds? Open the message!”

Is this an indication that Slot is willing to at least consider a new challenge in the Premier League?

One of Europe’s most underrated tacticians, the 44-year-old Dutchman turned AZ Alkmaar into title challengers a couple of seasons ago and is now doing the same with perennial underachievers Feyenoord; all the while presiding over a fluid passing style with a Guardiola-like 4-3-3 set-up.

“I enjoyed myself so much,” Slot told AD after Man City’s 2022 clash with Real Madrid.

“The way Guardiola lets his teams play, that is really unprecedented. Unparalleled. When Xavi and (Andres) Iniesta stopped at Barcelona, we thought we would never see anything like it again. But a coach like Guardiola still gives us so much beauty.

“That makes me very happy. I hope that many trainers will be inspired by him. Because, then, football will only get better.”

Slot is under contract at Feyenoord until 2025.
