Leeds United could soon hire another Jesse Marsch as Arne Slot makes his way onto their list of candidates to replace the American.

What’s the story?

Well, the 44-year-old is among the options to replace Marsch, according to 90min.

Slot has won some admirers at Elland Road after guiding his Feyenoord side to the top of the Eredivisie table, losing just one of 20 games so far as they sit two points ahead of AZ Alkmaar.

While that sounds impressive, the Eredivisie is a vastly different division to the Premier League, with some of the finest in the Netherlands often struggling in England.

For example, Vincent Janssen finished as the Eredivisie’s top scorer in the 2015/16 campaign with 27 goals in 34 appearances, which earned him a £17m move to Tottenham, although he only scored six goals in north London.

Aside from that, there is one particular pattern of Slot’s Feyenoord side which will concern Leeds fans, as it is vastly similar to Marsch’s biggest shortcoming during his time at Elland Road.

Leeds United could hire Marsch 2.0 in Arne Slot

In their last outing, a 2-2 draw against PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord had 35 shots and 68% possession, but struggled to put the ball in the back of the net.

Only a 65th minute red card for Armando Obispo turned the tide, and helped Slot’s men come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

There have been other games this season which follow that specific theme.

The 1-1 draw against Fortuna Sittard back in October saw Feyenoord take 33 shots on goal in comparison to their opponent’s four efforts, although wasteful finishing meant Slot’s side failed to take all three points.

Leeds, in truth, often played some good football under Marsch, but they were far too wasteful in the final third, and struggled to turn things around when the opposition took one of their chances.

Of course, Slot’s side are still doing well as they sit top of the Eredivisie, although Leeds cannot afford to hire someone with the same shortcomings as Marsch with relegation fears intensifying at Elland Road.
