Speaking to GiveMeSport, Dean Jones has shared the view from inside Tottenham about Pedro Porro after he signed from Sporting CP.
The wing-back arrived at Tottenham on transfer deadline day in January, and to say that Spurs are over the moon with their new signing would be something of an understatement.
Indeed, according to Jones, Spurs have very high hopes for Porro. The journalist states that some behind the scenes in north London believe that Porro could genuinely transform their season going forwards.

Spurs expect a lot from Porro
Jones shared what he’s heard about the wing-back.
“I mean, obviously, they haven’t put all this effort into him for no reason. I don’t think this is the same as Djed Spence when they put months of work into signing him and then he was never seen.
“That was more of a club signing, where this was somebody [Porro], I’m told it was very much a Conte signing and a man that the management team felt could transform their season, so I do expect to see him soon.“
Won’t be easy
It’s incredibly hard for any player to change a team’s season in an instant after signing in January.
Of course, as we’ve seen before, it can be done. Luis Diaz was a huge catalyst at Liverpool last season, Papiss Cisse made Newcastle a different team after signing back in 2012, while Virgil van Dijk immediately made Liverpool one of the best teams in Europe back in 2018.
However, it will be super tough for Porro to do this at Spurs. Firstly, he’s new to the league and will have to adapt and secondly, he’s playing in one of the most complex roles in world football as a Conte wing-back.
Some within the club believe Porro could be a gamechanging signing, but Spurs may have to be patient with the Spaniard.
