Liverpool legend Ian Rush has lauded Wrexham striker Paul Mullin ahead of tonight’s FA Cup clash against Sheffield United, with the National League side hopeful of causing an upset.
Speaking to the Leader, the former Anfield superstar and Wales icon was full of praise for Mullin as Wrexham’s star striker looks to lead the fifth-tier side to another historic result in the FA Cup having already eliminated Coventry City from the competition.
Wrexham were seconds away from knocking Sheffield United out of the FA Cup before a 95th-minute John Egan equaliser made it 3-3 and guaranteed the Welsh side to a replay at Bramall Lane, where history could be made if the visitors come away with a result.
The Welsh side, who have shot to prominence in the last 18 months due to their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have been one of the most entertaining clubs in the English pyramid in the last two seasons, and Mullin’s form has been key to their success.

The 28-year-old, who was in both Everton and Liverpool’s academies as a kid, has scored an astonishing 60 goals in 77 games in all competitions for Wrexham since signing in 2021. And for Rush, the National League superstar is a joy to watch for the Welsh footballing legend.
Rush said: “He’s full of confidence, you can see that in him from the off. It’s all down to confidence, and Mullin looks as if he’s got plenty of that. He’s a natural goalscorer, whose obviously enjoying himself at Wrexham. He really does know how to put the ball in the back of the net.”
